Here are a few eye-opening facts about good design that should help you to understand why we place such importance on design's part in the success of any business.

It's detail that always makes the difference, it's detail that sets us apart from our competitors and it's detail that never seems to be prioritised but often creates the biggest impact.
As a theoretical example, imagine what you wold think of the world's most luxurious store (Harrod's) if you were confronted with the image below? It may only be a few dead or dying light bulbs but this lack of attention to detail actually changes the images of the company.
What if Coca-Cola incorrectly spelt 'Celebrate' on this billboard ad? It doesn't change the taste of their drink but it would certainly change the perception we have of the organisation.
The image projected should accurately reflect the reality of the business. If the reality is very different, then it will confuse customers which will result in distrust.
Successful companies and brands place a high value upon good quality design. It directly reflects upon how people view their products and services.
If your competitors place little or no value on good design in marketing communications, then you have an immediate advantage and a greater chance of attracting customers over them.
